A one day orientation programme on the Importance of English to Engineering students was conducted by ELTAI (ACE) Thoothukudi chapter on 26th July 2013.  82 first year students along with 5 faculty members of the department of English of Chandy college of Engineering participated in the workshop.  A formal inaugural function was held and the principal of the college Dr.(Mrs) Sivagami Sundari spoke about the importance of communication and the Vice-principal of the college gave a special address about the need of English throughout the life of an engineer.  Followed by this a presentation on the importance of English was given.  Students participated in many activities on Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing.  This workshop created awareness among the budding engineers to improve their language skills.  Students were highly participatory and they realized the importance of English in their life as engineering students and to be engineers.  Dr.A.Joycilin Shermila the convener of ELTAI (ACE) Thoothukudi chapter acts as the resource person.
